Goodbye Roy

I am so sorry I didnt find out about your passing until much after. You know that I would have been there to say goodbye to you. You were a very special person, one of the first to make me comfortable at Naps. I enjoyed knowing you and having long conversations with you. When I left Naps I missed you more than anyone else. Goodbye Roy. You wlll always be in my heart.

tribute to Mr Jagroopsingh
R.I.P Mr Jagroopsingh. I will always remember the time that a certain student thought he could hit you witha water balloon and get away with it. Who knew you could run that fast? He didn't stand a chance. To all of his family and friends...keep your head up...stay strong....and God Bless..

Mr. jagroopsing, the one of the shining head.
a great person, always willing to teach a student anything that he could in the world of sport, i remember when discus and shotput trials were being held on the field. coming up to class i was asking a friend if the angle for the trows were the same for shotput and discus,
" no, they are actually different...."
i heard him tell us. he was always there to help out students, whether it be the footballl team or any student during the day. he will be greatly missed as one man who touched the lives of many......
may your great soul find peace in the hereafter Mr. R. Jagroopsingh.......

Great memories of Mr. Jagroopsingh

I was very fortunate to see Roy about two weeks before his passing...his strength and determination in the words he shared at the time proved to be why he was one of the strongest persons we all knew.

His character, demeanour, leadership have all inspired us at a young age at Naps. His guidance in sports was phenominal. I was fortunate to play cricket for Naps for most of my time there an enjoyed every minute of that experience which has contributed to my success in life now. During that time Roy displayed a calm and smart way of managing the cricket team and would not often raise his voice...cool, calm and collective....EXCEPT when I was at the crease could not score a single run in a limted over game and a little under pressure...I was sure to hear him from the boundary!!!

Its the lessons that we learn from the people that we respect and the ability use these wise lessons in tough situations that will help us remember the person who has made us and our families proud.

We will never forget the way he smiled, squeezed our shoulder, taught, stroked or simply patrolled the corridors looking for the cricketers / footballers who were misbehaving. For the sports people who was under the guidance of Roy; we all have more to tell and remember.

To his family: Be strong; his life was a living example of family strength, committment and support. Our sincerest condolences.

Precious memories
"Bring your gears Val." he said.:..music to my  13 yr old ears...yes I was picked to play for the Junior team ..and he was saying this from the balcony of the staff room from where so many other boys had to hear it...the sense of fufillment I felt that evening as I walked to the taxi stand will forever live in my memory .
Roy took a personal interest in ALL the people around him.I have never met another person in life who never seemed to forget anyones name and he was at Naps forty years!
I remembered him in college uniform ,his name was synonymous with Ayoub Ali, yes they were picked for South Colleges...what an honour... what PRIDE we felt as Naps boys and that was in my first year...he was in 6 A M..modern studies with legs big like a cyclist.and an unforgettable voice.and who as a student could ever forget the stunning beauty of Rohini Dipchand Maharaj..his wife then a student as well.
As a sports master he was helpful and  nurturing, not given to temper tantrums.he was a natural coach.I remember sitting with him and his son and Jan Steadman in Atherlys Bar the evening after we won the triple crown ..Roy was so proud of this achievement ..he was quiet and soaking in the moment..he even recalled the glory days of 21-0 against QRC and hastened to remind me that a lot of students dont know that we played with 7 men because the others were stranded due to car trouble..and as the years passed it was a pleasure to assist him with providing a lunch for the footballers, or to assist in buying boots for one or two players..he knew we were true naps boys..we must not let him down..may his legacy live on forever..RIP.

Farewell to a great man
Firstly, I will like to extend my condolences to the family and friends to Mr. Jagroopsingh. I entered Naps back in 1984 (in Form 1). Mr. Jagroopsingh was our PE Teacher and one of my first  memories was doing abs in the gym, he will place a piece of wood with nails under our ankles. Wow I kept my feet up.
As the younger guys will know, I played under 14 and Championship Football for Naps. He was our team manager. He sat at the end of the bench, with his feet crossed and very serious (permit me to say, at time using some serious language at what he saw on the field). He was a winner and wanted us to be winners also, as a matter of fact, the 1990 Championship Team was the FIRST Naps Team to win the South Zone League Title. That was a very nice experience. The years that followed, I would have met him at games and we will chat.
He was a great guy and he will be missed. May his soul Rest in Peace. May I be bold to say: 'Let's dedicate this year to him.' .To the 2009 Championship Team, play for him especially.

Thanks,
Dion (1984 - 1991)

Tribute to Mr Jagroopsingh

From my first days at Naps it was clearly evident that Roy Jagroopsingh brought something different. He had a great presence without needing to be 'loud' and although he was sports master at the time I remember a brilliant sample geography lesson he gave us one day when it was raining heavily and we were stuck indoors!

Throughout my school career he was a great mentor, adviser, motivator  and  listener and always very empathic to students across the spectrum of school life. He will be surely missed.

Best wishes to all his family and friends.

Farewell to Mr J.....

The Naparima fraternity has truly lost one of the most important figures in its long, colourful history.  Mr Jagroopsingh touched the lives of so many people and shall be fondly remembered as one who almost unconditionally cared about his students, his school and his job.  He leaves a legacy that is worthy of emulation by all.  Though many may attempt to follow in his footsteps, it is unlikely than any shall be able to fill his shoes.  Farewell to a true gentleman, who shall be sorely missed.

Tribute to Roy Jagroopsingh - A tribute to his Character
I never knew Roy prior to me beginning my secondary school education at Naparima in 1973. My interaction with Roy began in my second term at Naparima College in 1974. It involved a cricket match we were playing against Presentation College on their school ground at Carib Street. It was a two afternoon match, which I played the first day, but never showed up for the second day. I don't remember the reason now, but more than likely it was "ill discipline".... knowing the kind of person I was back then. Well the next day Roy promptly came looking for me, and in a very dignified manner, not even visibly upset, found me and marched me off to the Principal's office, where I was scolded.... and it was not on my hands.... I can assure you. Being a Form 1 Student at the time, my emotions overwhelmed me and I started to cry. Roy then put his arms around me and together we went to the front of the AV room and went to sit by a bench under the Flamboyant Tree. Roy then sat me down and explained the reason behind his actions and when he was finished I truly appreciated what was imparted to me that faithful day....... "COMMITMENT".

To this day I will never forget that incident in my life that thought me such a valuable lesson. Perhaps my only regret is I never had the chance to thank him for that lesson..... "blows and all". Two years later I lost my father and all through my stay at Naparima both in Football and Cricket, Roy remained that Father figure to me.

My last full interaction with Roy was at last seasons football matches, when we would sit and talk at length about the match and players, always there and "FULLY COMMITTED"

My condolences to Roy's Family.

He will be truly missed.
